September 2016 Meeting

Northampton Historical Society Meeting

Doors open 4:00 for social time and tour of the barn. A business meeting will follow. Since the park closes at dusk, which will be a little after 7:00, the program will start at 6:00 Refreshments Provided

Ted Dudre will return as General Alvin C. Voris
General Alvin Coe Voris was the highest ranking officer to come out of Summit County during the Civil War. One of his first post-war acts was giving a speech at the dedication of the Civil War monument in Cuyahoga Falls on Oct. 26, 1866.

A retired Plain Local Schools science teacher, Dudra is spending his time with numerous historical organizations. He reenacts for four different wars: the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War and World War II. He’s an active with Company G, 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Historical Association (Civil War) and Fort Laurens in Bolivar, Ohio (Revolutionary War).

June 2016 Outing

The NHS will continue with its June outing visit to another historical society museum.
The visit will be at the: Portage County Historical Society museum located at, 6549 North Chestnut Street in Ravenna Ohio, on Monday, June 27, 2016, Members should meet at the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library parking lot – AT 10:00AM,
We are scheduled to meet at the museum around 10:30 – 10:45AM. We will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Dreama, always enjoyed these outings – she will be missed. Members may drive to the location.

Dave Allison, President, Lafayette Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will present 1775 Boston: Sons of Liberty and British Soldiers Behaving Badly. These events involved his relative, Dr. Joseph Warren, a key figure of the time.

Historical Privy Salvage and Urban Archeology will enlighten us on the topic of glass bottles and the historic glass industry. If you would like his opinion on an old bottle, bring it to the meeting. (Please, bottles only)

Come meet our new affiliate the Cuyahoga Valley Terminal Model Railroad Club. Bruce Ferry will talk about the club, its history and vision for the future. A video and slide show will tell more than words!

We will hand them the keys to the new model train room!

Remember- this is our official annual business meeting.

Ted Dudre from the Friends of Fort Laurens will give a presentation about the history of the fort and dreams for the future of the site.

Ted is a retired 35 year science teacher at Plain Local schools in Canton.  He also taught at Home school cooperative for four years after that.

He lives in the City of Green where he is the vice president of the Green Historical Society.  They have just saved the only two room schoolhouse in the area and have several projects being planned to save Green history.

Ted re-enacts 4 time eras and considers himself a genealogist and amateur historian.   He is also involved with Plain Local Historical Society, Summit county Historical Society and Ohio Historical Connection.

Peggy Cartwright from Summit County Beekeepers Association
will present a program on Bees, Honey, and Pollinators. Peggy is a former Northamponite and has been a beekeeper for 31/2 years and a certified Summit County Master Gardener for 14yrs. She also holds a specialization in native pollinators from OSU Extension.
