Howland Davis from the Summit County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will give a presentation on the Chapter’s services and benefits. Mr. Davis is the immediate Past President of the chapter, the editor of a newsletter, the historian (brand new) and have been the corresponding secretary. He has been a member since April 2003.

Long time Northampton residents Lynn Tomlinson, she and her mother Edna (Trumphour) Thomlinson will be our guests. They will show photos of family members and tell some of their memories of the old Northampton and Boston Township areas.

Our speaker will be Calvin Rydbom of The “Akron Sound” Museum, a unique organization focusing on the original music styles developed in and around the Akron area, which have a featured place at the Akron History Center
Mr. Rydbom is the Author of “The Akron Sound” in 2018 and “Akron: Images of Modern America” in 2015 as well as others.

November 2023 Required Business Meeting
Good Evening,
Fall is here and it’s time for our mandatory Annual Members Meeting,
MONDAY NOVEMBER 20, 2023, at the Old Northampton Town Hall 851 W. Bath Rd; CFO.
Social time from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm. Annual NHS Review and
Agenda at 7:00 pm. Agenda will include change to the Memorial Fund.
Amendment changes to sections of the By Laws such as no meeting in January. PLEASE come to discuss issues regarding the future of the NHS.
Refreshments will be provided. See the newly renovated Town Hall. Bring your family or Friend. Renew your membership for 2024, forms will be available

Northamptonite Robert Macak will talk about his enthusiasm for bicycling and the many trips he’s made. He has made these trips as both a single rider and as part of a group ride.
He’s also had part in organizing some of the group rides. If you were at the Barn Sale you may have noticed him as he was riding his bike there.
November is our required annual meeting. We’ll have a lot to update folks on, so even if you’re not a member you’re welcome to come find out what we’ve been up to.
No meeting December, as usual.

2023 Meetings
Due to various issues we did not get out meeting notices for April and May. We’re sorry if you missed the meetings. Upcoming is the Barn Sale in September. There will be no September meeting. October to be announced. November is the required Annual Meeting and we don’t meet in December.

Due to a scheduling mixup, our previously scheduled speaker, Kenneth Clarke, won’t be able to make it this month. We’ve chosen to present a video, The Sultana Disaster. This is a video presentation of a program given by author Gene Eric Salecker. The disaster occurred on the Mississippi River at the close of the American Civil War. Mr. Salecker will present the known facts and probable details in this well researched program. There is monument in the Cuyahoga Falls Oakwood Cemetery to those from the area who were lost in the event.
Gene Eric Salecker is the author of the book Disaster on the Mississippi: the Sultana Explosion. He has appeared on the History Channel and PBS.

For those of you who missed Kenneth Clarke’s earlier presentation at the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society we’re providing another opportunity.
Kenneth Clarke is the 5th Great Grandson of Simeon and Katharine Prior. Simeon and Katharine, along with their family, founded Northampton Township, now Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He is the author of Wolves and Flax
The Prior Family in the Cuyahoga Valley Wilderness. Wolves and Flax is based on the Prior Family Archive and other historical publications going back more than two centuries so he knows a lot of Northampton history.
